The poets + vocalists of SolHarmonie first paired in the poetry collective Underground Poets. These women bonded over their shared passion, not just for music and poetry, but for music in poetry and refused to pick a side. Their sound is a sisterhood of lyricism, love of dance, a deep and evident shared faith, and an unabashed commitment to emotional connection. Each member brings a unique musical aesthetic to the duo: Rae is a mid-ranged trained vocalist and orator who chases the hardest notes and cadences and Symphonie is a church-trained low-register soulful powerhouse. Over the years, these women have grown more comfortable jumping genres and mashing up influences to become memorable performers who belong firmly planted on a stage.
Rae Sunshine is was a singer before an orator. She trained as a singer, dancer, and performer in Atlanta and comes from a musical family growing up in Queens/Long Island New York. The Haitian-born singer was introduced to spokenword in Syracuse, New York. Rae has gone one to perform opening for Def Jam Artists Malik Yusef, HBO Def Poets: Shihan Van Clief, Beau Sia, Tamika “Georgia Me” Harper and Dana Gilmore; orated with Symphoria (Symphony Orchestra), and performed in Syracuse’s Carrier Dome.
Simone “Symphonie” Owens is a vocalist, spoken word and visual artist from Syracuse, New York. Her stage name was given as her peers observed her ability to connect her love of music with everyday situations. Symphonie has gone on to perform on stages such as The National Poetry Slam (NPS), tour across the country performing, and publish her debut collection of poetry, Semi-Colon. Symphonie is a regular performer, painter, and poet. She's the heart of Sol Harmonie and regularly supports other artists and creatives through a community called The Hub.
